About Lake Zurich

Lake Zürich is a lake in Switzerland named after the city of Zürich, but it stretches southeast till St. Gallen. Lake Zürich is a summertime play place with something for everyone.  Of the 56 prehistoric pile dwellings in the Swiss Alps, 11 of them are located around Lake Zürich, although you will be unable to visit them because they are 23 feet under the water level, there are several tour guides available who will explain their significance and describe them in detail. Pay a visit to the Swiss National Museum to discover the history, handicrafts, housewares, and weapons of the first inhabitants of the area. For those in your family who loves art, wander the Kunsthaus Zürich for European collections from the 15th century to now. Go on a pilgrimage of your own to Grossmünster, the Romanesque cathedral with two towers, or the Fraumünster Church with its copper spire and elegant stained glass. Play a game of outdoor chess on one of the boards at Lindenhof Hill. It was a Roman fort with spectacular views over the water. Grab the whole family, pile into an original paddleboat with a rudder and foot pedals, and go for an excursion on the lake. The only question should be, “When do we go?”
