About Santa Prisca de Taxco

Santa Prisca de Taxco, once one of the tallest buildings in Mexico, is a colossal church found in the city of Taxco de Alarcón, in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. Also called the Church of Santa Prisca, Santa Prisca de Taxco was originally constructed between 1751 and 1758 according to the orders of José de la Borda, a wealthy mine owner of Taxco in the 18th century. The towers built in the pink stones and the dome covered with polychrome tiles are one of the most fantastic features of the monument. The interior of the church is magnificent with multiple paintings, sculptures, architecture and preserved ornaments. Santa Prisca is the best example of baroque style work and renewing spirit at the same time. The church was built so that Borda’s son, Manuel de la Borda – a preacher, could hold mass. The building is rich with history, and certainly should not be missed!
