The galleries each have a theme. The Briefing Hall has a theatre to introduce visitors to the collections. The Gallery of 1,000 Buddha explains Buddhist influence on Cambodia. The remaining galleries focus on the Khmer civilization, religion and beliefs, costumes, and the Khmer Kings.

The museum is a repository of information and artifacts of the majestic history of the Angkor empire and culture of Khmer civilization. The museum is a must visit as it provides ample information about the temples of Siem Reap. There are eight art galleries which shed light on the customs, traditions, and rituals of the ancient empire. There are also collections which are mainly dated from the Khmer Empire's Angkor period. The museum is very well maintained and provides a comfortable experience to its visitors. It is a must visit to have an idea before starting your tour of Siem Reap temples.

How to reach

 It is 1.1 km away from the city center or even on foot. 

You can reach their by Taxi.

Taxi Fare: 10 $ (41060 Cambodian riel)

It is just 2 km from the city center and one can hire motorbikes, bicycles or tuk-tuks to cover the distance. Bicycles and motorbikes are easily available in the city at all places and bikes cost $3 to $10 for a day whereas, bicycle around $1 to $2. These can be used for short distance travel at an economical price. The prices can be negotiated before taking the ride depending on the time and the distance.

  • Spend a few hours at the museum before heading out to the temples
  • Make reservations online at their website to save money
  • You can pay when you arrive after showing your reservation email
  • Go to the museum first as it will prepare you for all the symbolism,Gods,History and layout of the temples
  •  It is worth paying for the audio commentary
  • Take a guide along to understand this place well
  • Better to read about the sections before you visit, for a better experience
  • Take your time and explore all the galleries
  • Take this tour before the visit to Ankor Wat and other temples to have an idea about their history and understand them better
