About Titanic Belfast

The Titanic Belfast is a multi-functional building constructed on a former shipyard where the RMS Titanic was built. The 12,000 square-metre (130,000 square foot) building has galleries, retail, meeting and event space, restaurants, and a bar.

The design was conceived to resemble a ship’s prows, angled towards the river. It is as tall as the Titanic’s hull at 38 metres (126 feet) high. Its aluminium façade is covered in 3,000 shards to imitate a ship’s appearance while still allowing in sunlight. Locals think it looks more like an iceberg.

The staircase made famous in the movie is a focal point in the conference centre. In front of the building is a sculpture of Titanica who looks much like a ship’s figurehead. Much like the Titanic in the Northern Atlantic, the Titanic Belfast has an Ocean Exploration Centre beneath its galleries. The galleries showcase the history of the Titanic from construction to its maiden-voyage demise. Nine galleries cover what the city was like during construction, the Titanic’s days in the shipyard, its launch, life onboard, it's sinking, and the aftermath. The exhibitions portray the myths and legends, and where the Titanic is now beneath the ocean surface.

The Titanic Belfast was one of Ireland’s largest-ever concrete pours. Seven hundred lorries delivered 4,200 cubic metres (150,000 cubic feet) of concrete in a span of 24 hours. Hopefully, the building doesn’t sink like its namesake under the weight! Touchwood!!!
