About Malacca Zoo

One can never get their fill of walking amidst lush greenery, especially in a country like Malaysia, you won’t have to travel far to find yourself lost in the melodious whispers of nature. What better way to spend a fun-filled day with your family at the amazing Malacca Zoo? It is located along the Ayer Keroh Highway in Malacca. This huge zoological park is 54 acres wide. It is the largest zoo in Malaysia, only after the National Zoo of Malaysia. So, wear comfortable footwear and travel light since you will be on foot a lot. An option to reduce walking time would be to take the available tram rides.  Open since 1960, the zoo is home to about 215 species of 1,200 creatures. It will be quite an experience coming up front and close to these graceful and exquisite creatures.

Must See

  • Semiaquatic mammal native hippopotamus
  • See a variety of animal species in their natural habitats
  • Take the kids to the zoo's Elephant Feeding Session for some quality weekend activity

Tips

  • Slap on mosquito patches/insect repellent, and be generous about it!
  • If you are driving, try to get some parking coupons from Malacca town before you arrive.
  • Try to time your visit to coincide with the animal shows! If you go during the low season, it's definitely worth making a detour to catch the shows (not the most exciting, but the kids enjoy it!) The shows are in Malay though.
  • There are snack/drinks/ice cream shops located throughout the zoo. There weren't restaurants open selling full meals while we were there (but it was the really low season), so I do recommend eating before/after you visit the zoo.
  • Show your MyKad to get discount.
  • Carry strollers for younger children.
  • Wheelchair accessible area
