About Netherlands Open Air Museum

The Dutch know their art and there are centuries worth of artistic creations to support this fact. So, what do you do when a museum invites you to “Experience Holland in a single day?” You do exactly that! The slogan of the Netherlands Open Air Museum pretty much sums up what you can expect from it. Located near Arnhem, the museum is a tremendously popular tourist attraction of the country. As the name suggests, this 44-hectare national museum is open-air that lets you enjoy the displayed items as well as the nature surrounding it. The museum comprises antique houses, factories, and farms from varying sections of the country, dating as far back as the 16th Century.

In other words, this park is dedicated to the culture of the mundane life of ordinary people. Expect to bear witness to numerous windmills, farms, workshops, churches, barns, houses, etc. A few of the structures in the park are grouped together. Keep an eye out for the beautiful Zaan region, with its mesmerizing wooden houses painted in green. Be sure to speak to the volunteers or employees in some of the historic houses, to get a glimpse into the history of the house and its era. Hop onto one of the trains that move around the terrain for a quick getaway from one end of the huge park to another. Before leaving, be sure to grab a bite at the Dutch bakery in the little village center of the park. Also, situated there is almost a century-old Chinese restaurant, a traditional Dutch store, and a variety of old shops offering memorabilia.
