About Pilanesberg National Park

Since late 1979, the Pilanesberg National Park has been the Home to Africa's Big Five: lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo. You can explore this vast park through fun-filled activities that will take you on a safari trip of a lifetime: observing imposing animals going about their life in the most authentic way is a show that every visitor is encouraged to witness.

The park area itself is a geological wonder. As a result of thousands of years of volcanic eruptions, the area has been molded into its current shape giving the park a unique character and memorable landscapes making it the ideal habitat for endangered species. How to reach

There are 3 entrance gates - the closest to Johannesburg is approx 220km from the city.

By air it taker around 2 hours 48 minutes with a minimum of R 4500 fare

By bus, it takes 10 hours 35 minute with a minimum fare of  R 1821

By car, it takes around 8 hours 30 minutes with a minimum fare of  R5000

Tips

  • A wonderful place to see all kinds of wildlife.
  • Try to stay in the private lodges as opposed to the ‘public’ sections where you can self-drive.
  • They have access to private parts that have outstanding beauty and perhaps a greater chance of seeing wildlife close up.
  • It is a Beautiful terrain and you need a few days to truly get the feel of the place. 
  • Get very close encounters with many wild and rare animals like lions, ostrich, leopards, zebras jackals, hyenas, elephants and more.
  • Many good opportunities to click photographs.
