Where the moon sits still on the water; a crescent-shaped island on the Han river, deriving her name from the brave general Nami and the setting for South Korea's most-watched TV serial 'Winter Sonata', Namiseom or Nami Island will leave you mesmerized. Here, nature comes alive, flaunting four different colors in four changing seasons. Here tall Redwood Trees welcome you to converse in silence. Here, each garden has a story to tell. But away from the peace and quietude, there is also an urbane amusement park, where there are restaurants, water sports, roller skating, and merry-go-rounds. A micronation, requiring a separate visa for foreigners, this slice of paradise is a lovers' lair, an artist's studio, and the common man's salvation.
The distance from Seoul City Hall, the city center to Yongsan station is 4.2 km. It will take 7 minutes to reach by train, 10 minutes by subway and 3 minutes by Taxi or Uber.
The best way would be to take the ITX to Yongsan station and from here reach the Gapyeong ferry wharf, which is an hour away by taxi or train. From there, ferries ply at regular intervals to Namiseom Island. ITX one-way ticket price ranges from 5200 to 5900 KRW. You can book in advance on the KORAIL website. Children ride at half cost while infants ride free. The round-trip ferry ride cost is 8000 KRW for adults and 4000 KRW for children aged and 4 to 13 and free for infants.
Other available options are the Shuttle Bus Service and a 9-hour private car charter, both from Seoul.
You can also take the ZipRider, the super-fast cable car from ZipWire Tower. The cost is 38000 KRW but it covers the admission fee to Nami Island as well the cost of the return ferry ride. It will take you to the island in just 2 minutes - not for the faint-hearted though.
