About Mayan Pyramids of Chichen Itza

The Chichén Itzá, otherwise known as one of the seven wonders of the world, are a series of ancient buildings that make up a sizeable pre-Columbian city designed and built by the Mayan people in the Terminal Classic Period. Archaeologists found this large ancient community in Tinúm Municipality, Yucatán State, Mexico. This ancient city was spoken about in Mesoamerican literature and experts believe that this pre-Columbian city was home to diverse ethnic groups. Certainly, the rich culture and history is not a sight you’ll want to miss!

How to reach

By Bus

There is a bus from Merida Noreste to Chichén Itzá, leaving every 3 hours and takes around 2 hours to reach, the distance is 73 miles. The fare is approx. 7 to 11 USD.

By Car

You can take a taxi from the city center and it will cost around 24 to 29 USD.

Tips

  • Dress yourself in light clothes. 
  • Wear comfortable shoes as you may have to walk a lot.
  • To beat the heat, carry water with yourself and use sunblock.
  • You would need to pay 45 pesos for using video camera. 
  • Private tours provide lunch for the visitors. 
  • If you are planning to visit on your own without a booked tour, you can go nearby Piste to grab a bite. 
  • You can buy handmade objects from the local vendors if you want, make sure you are not overcharged. 
  • Guided tour is recommended for a better understanding of the history of this place.
