About Mount Sinai

Known locally also as Mountain of Moses, this is a big site for Jewish history. Mount Sinai is the place where, according to Bible, Moses received Ten Commandments from God. Needless to say, it is an important pilgrimage spot, held sacred by people of Christian, Islamic and Jewish faith. For those of you without the religious interest, you can also enjoy the geological perspective of the place with its ring structure of alkaline granites.  If you so wish, you can also climb up to the summit for some spectacular views, especially during sunset. There are also camels available on rent to take you up. On the summit, there is an operation mosque, a church that isn't open to the public, as well as Moses' cave, where the Ten Commandments are said to have appeared to Moses.   Reaching the summit takes patience and energy. The climb is arduous - the entire journey takes around 5-7 hours - but the rewards are rich: you get to see a spectacular sunrise and beautiful vistas of the Sinai mountains. On the summit is a chapel, mosque and Moses' cave, where Moses is said to have waited to receive God's commandments. Every ounce of energy spent on climbing the mountain will be worth it because of its religious significance and for the magnificent views.
