Located in the centre of the Civic District, the National Gallery of Singapore is a visual arts museum. The progressive artwork works to build a more inclusive society,and is aided by various programmes and activities. It also oversees the largest collection of public art in Southeast Asia. The Gallery is built on two public monuments - the City Hall and the erstwhile Supreme Court. The building design was selected through a design competetion. There are two permanent galleries - the DBS Singapore Gallery and UOB Southeast Asia Gallery. You can carefully study the evolution of art, history and culture in Singapore and some other parts of Asia through these exhibits. There are also open spaces that house travelling exhibits during the year. During festivals seasons, the gallery has tons of film screenings, outdoor interactive activities, functions and concerts. You will also find restaurants and a couple of cafes on site. If you are for longer, you can also enroll into the Docent training workshops at the Learning Centre of the gallery as well. The gallery will keep you engaged for hours, and the younger ones can enjoy the fun activities such as block painting in the kids section.
