About Karymsky Lake (Acid Lake)

It is incredible what nature can gift us with, and that includes our dear Karymsky Lake. Formed by the Karymsky volcano in the Pamchatka Peninsula, it’s area spans for over five kilometers and was once known as one of the largest lakes in the world. Unfortunately, due to the eruption of toxic gases, it is now filled with acid instead, where it gets its name ‘acid lake’ from. It is an incredible sight to see, yet a sight that isn’t for the faint-hearted for it belongs to a region that has over sixty-eight active volcanoes. Such dangerous activity has caused the region to be named the ‘Ring of Fire’.
