About The Alhambra

The Alhambra, located in Granada, is an architectural treasure, a Moorish stronghold, and the oldest Muslim Palace in the world. Little wonder, it is one of Spain's most visited sites. Over its storied history, this site has been a Roman fortification, a Muslim Palace, and the Renaissance Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella. Today the Alhambra sits atop the Al-Sabika Hill overlooking the city of Granada, offering visitors stunning views, and the opportunity to step back into history.

The Alhambra dates back to the 9th century. The original small fortress was built on an even older foundation dating back to Roman times. The intricate carvings throughout the palace of Alhambra, still speak about its Muslim heritage. This site is comprises of three distinct sections. The Alcazaba is the oldest, and is the military zone of the fortress. The Nasrid Palace comprises  boldly decorated royal palace artifacts and features striking architecture. The gardens of Generalife include Moorish style gardens, Baroque courtyards, and the water stairway. A UNESCO world heritage since 1984, the Alhambra stands as one of the best monuments of Islamic architecture in Spain.
