One of the most interesting sites in the United Kingdom, the Roman Baths can be simplistically termed as an ancient religious spa. At the center of the city of Bath, the site is divided into four sections. These are the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, the Bath House, and a visitor's museum. The Sacred Spring is a thermal spring that flows into the site and fills the individual baths with hot spring water. The Bath House is the central bathing area which has a deep lead-lined pool. There are multiple smaller pools as well as a cold-water pool that the royalties used after their hot baths to rejuvenate themselves. You can explore the site and take the guided tour to understand how the baths were used, but you aren't allowed to enter the water. Along with the space of walk on the original Roman-built paths, you can also visit the ruins of the Temple of Sulis Minerva, whose artifacts are exhibited in the museum on site. At the end of the many guided tours available, you can taste the spring water, which was believed to have healing properties. There is often some live music at the site and a restaurant that serves high tea for visitors.
