About Summer Palace of Queen Marie and Botanical Gardens

What can better a romantic gift from a King to his Queen, than a summer palace and gardens? The Balchik Palace, or Summer Palace of Queen Marie & Botanical Gardens, in Balchik was a gift from Ferdinand of Romania to his English wife Marie.
Unlike other palaces, this one is comparatively small. The design itself is also unusual for the time it was built, as it is in Gothic and Islamic styles with a minaret.
Queen Marie was an artist, so it is natural for her paintings to be on display here. You’ll also find the original furniture and a collection of artifacts found in the area. The elegant botanical gardens are located behind the palace, with watermills and a vineyard ordered by Queen Marie from the locals. Each terrace has its own theme.
Many of the water mills have been converted to restaurants, and the royal apartments converted to visitor accommodations. It is a picturesque little royal hideout fit for a queen, and the discerning tourist.
