About Viking Ship Museum

A museum dedicated to the iconic warships of the Vikings is something that you can easily spend a few hours exploring. The Vikings were a fierce community of pirates who roamed the seas in their wooden ships and raided lands on their way. The main section of this museum is the Viking Ship Hall - an exhibition of five original Viking ships that were excavated in 1962 from Roskilde Fjord. The rest of it is the Boat Yard, where archeological work continues round the year. Here, you can also understand the historical background and culture of the Vikings. You'll especially enjoy the Jetty, where you can actually climb onboard recreations of the vessels in the water as well as try on traditional Viking costumes and participate in activities. In warm months, you'll also see coin minting, jewelry making, and shield-painting sessions.
