About Den Gamle By

Den Gamle By is by far one of the most unique museum experiences you will ever have- no matter how many museums in the world you have been to. Also called Aarhus, this is a live history museum- the cultural center of the old city. You will see over 75 houses divided into residences, diners, workshops, gardens, post offices and more. All of these are populated with people who role-play the parts of town-dwellers in occupations such as post-masters, mayors, merchants, etc. This gives you the feel of walking through a living village of yore. The Arts Gallery itself also has decorative clocks, steelware, cutlery, and an extensive research library. One place here that you definitely shouldn't miss is the Festival Square, where you can rent stilts, see music performances and even play skittles. For others, there is also a Toy Museum and a Danish Poster Museum on site.
