About Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Tournai

Would you visit a site that is the pride and landmark of the city? How about if it was considered to be a gem of medieval architecture? Or if it was historically significant and was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Irrespective of whichever option that you chose, they all point towards one place – The Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Tournai. Built-in the 12th Century, the Notre-Dame Cathedral is a very beloved and well-known attraction for locals and tourists alike. It was constructed on sites of older foundations, and so the building comprises three periods of architectural designs with such elegance and beauty. Expect to see the Romanesque nave, the Transitional design of the transept, and Gothic-style choir. One of the most striking aspects of the building is the transept, with its cluster of five bell towers and apsidal ends. People from all over the globe flock to this striking edifice to soak in its rich energy and sights. The cathedral fell victim to a tornado in 1999 which severely destabilized the structure. There have been various renovations and repairs been made to the edifice since then. Currently, there are plans to have a 3D mapping light and sound show here from August 16th to 25th. If you can, then try to visit the cathedral during this timeframe. It will be an unforgettable experience for sure.
