About Fort Breendonk

Almost all forts have a dark past full of death and torture. In spite of its grim history, the forts themselves have played a major role in the history of the world. They carry their scars with pride and humility in their hearts! Yet another example of such a fortress is the Fort Breendonk. This military fortress in the Breendonk town is one of the best-preserved camps in Europe. This fort is said to have served as a Nazi prison camp during the Second World War. It was used when the Nazis had occupied this part of Belgium during the war. The air of the fort is slightly heavy because of its dark past and the lives lost. Usually, visitors to the camp pay their respects to those who have fallen victims to Nazi Germany and war as a whole. More so, at the Memorial, the work of the fort’s former prisoners has been placed on display. You can consider visiting this fort to pay your respects as well.
