Tips

  • Rent a small car. It's easier to navigate and to park along the road and in towns along the route.
  • Try to avoid weekends, especially in summer, when it's much more crowded.
  • While driving be focused and patient. DO NOT overpass others. The road is very narrow, winding and unpredictable.
  • Pay attention to buses which often drive ruggedly being the strongest on the road, especially on turns when they occupy the other lane also.
  • Pay special attention to motorists and drive with caution.
  • On every corner, you'd be eager to take a photo. There are many expansions along the road for that, but if you miss one don't drive reverse, rather stop shortly along the road. Many do that as those expansions are often full, so standing by the road's pretty common. In that way beware of cars entering back for driving.
  • Don't rush, you'll spoil your enjoyment. When planning count at least the whole day. It isn't just about driving. You simply must visit Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. Not visiting those 3 beautiful towns would be a sin.
  • This is an expensive high-end tourist area. Count on higher expenses for everything...accommodation, restaurants, parking (3-5 euros per hour). Enjoy, have a great time in this outstanding area.
