For a truly different kind of experience in France, head to the Dune du Pilat. The “Grade Dune du Pilat” or “La Test-de-Buch” is the tallest sand dune in Europe and is located about 35 miles from Bordeaux. The name is sometimes confused with Pyla Sur Mer, a nearby town. This natural phenomenon is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, dense pine forest and the Arcachon Bay.
Due to the winds created in this pocket of the beach, Dune du Pilat is home to many paragliders. Jump from a 300-ft height, catch an air current over the water, and try your hand at different aerial techniques.
