When someone mentions The Okanagan Valley, in British Columbia, you may automatically think of the wineries, vineyards, and fruit orchards that it is known for. The Okanagan region surrounds the cities of Kelowna, Vernon, and Kamloops, and is home to several ski resorts.
For salmon fishing, pack your rod and reel and head to Haig-Brown Provincial Park where the salmon swim upriver to spawn every year. If you take your favorite floating inner tube or poor chair and go for a lazy ride down the Penticton River. Hike to Hardy Falls, pack a picnic for lunch in Peachland, or watch an outdoor performance at The Caravan Farm Theatre. Just south of Penticton you’ll also find Canada’s largest radio astronomy observatory.
Since agriculture has been the main focus in The Okanagan, spend some time at the Old Grist Mill where the flour was ground for the gold rush miners, and get lost in a corn maze. Try some of the world’s best Gouda cheese in Salmon Arm.
Whatever you do, you’ll want to take home some wine to go with that cheese!
