About Calgary Stampede, AB

Pack your cowboy boots and straw hat, and let out a big, “Yeehaw!” The Calgary Stampede is held every July in Calgary Alberta. It isn’t called “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” for nothing. The ten-day tournament show is one of the world’s largest rodeos, one of Canada’s largest festivals, and a major attraction for the city.

During the Stampede, the city becomes one big party. Stores and office buildings alike get cowboy-themed makeovers, everyone wears their best plaid shirts, jeans, and shiny belt buckles to enjoy hundreds of barbecues.

Over one million visitors come to the Stampede per year for the bull-riding and cattle penning. It’s not just full of bull, visitors can also enjoy horse cutting (which moving them in short time, not cutting horses with a knife), miniature donkeys, draft and heavy horses, sheep-shearing, and blacksmithing skills competitions. Every roadhouse, restaurant, and pub in the city will have live music sure to make you kick up your heels.

Test your “cow sense” and celebrate western heritage.
