Take the North Head Trail to Signal Hill overlooking St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Originally a fortification built in the mid 17th century, it is now a living heritage where you can immerse yourself in encounters with nature. Experience the Irish, English, French, and Indigenous cultures all in one place. Signal Hill is a National Historic Site of Canada, featuring interactive exhibits and films about the military history at the visitor centre.
You don’t need to go on an Arctic exploration to see icebergs. These mountains of ice can be seen from any of the vantage points along the coast. Catch one of the world’s largest population of humpback whales at play, or be awestruck at any of the other 21 species of whale and dolphin that make the waters around Signal Hill home. You won’t need binoculars to get close to any of the 350 species of seabirds.
Take a hike, go for a walk, camp, enjoy a festival, and get your souvenirs at the gift shop. You’ll have stories to tell for years to come.
