Alaska boasts the tallest mountain in North America, Denali, at 20,310 feet high. It lies in the middle of Denali National Park and Preserve, within 6 million acres of Alaska’s interior wilderness. The park is a mixture of spruce and taiga forest, providing habitat for grizzly bears, wolves, moose, and caribou, and mountain sheep. In addition to the forest and tundra, snowy glaciers cover roughly 16% of the park.
Don’t miss Wonder Lake, famous for its clear blue mirror-like water and campgrounds. The second-highest peak in the Alaskan Range, Mount Forake,r is 17,000 feet high and has two peaks! Both peaks were first climbed in 1934. The Denali Visitor Center and Eielson Visitor Center both offer ranger-led hikes, art galleries, animal exhibits, and films. The park is open to fun experiences all year round, with biking, backpacking, hiking and mountaineering in the summer months, and dog sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling in the winter.
