About Avenue des Champs-Élysées

The Champs-Élysées dates back to the 17th century and was first conceptualized and created in the year 1670 by King Louis XIV. It was actually an undertaking to reconnect the Louvre to the Tuilerie Garden. The project got an extension when the actual avenue came to life and the reality was more beautiful than thought-of and was further extended to the Place Charles de Gaulle. Presently extending for almost 2 km it is undoubtedly the most beautiful avenue the world-over as it truly exemplifies the luxury, elegance, prestige and the cultural milieu of Paris.

Initially constructed on a simple aspect, it was redesigned by Baron Haussmann who infused it with elements of aristocratic, stylish and classy sophistication encouraging luxury hotels, business houses, bankers, and industrialists to vie with one another to secure a foothold at this place. By the 1920s this avenue and the city's main artery, was a haven for all things luxe. what was initially only a shopper's arcade is now peppered with tourist-friendly restaurants, theatres, auction house, library, high-end shops, luxury flagship stores and more. In spite of the changes this striking tree-lined avenue still maintains the allure and magic of yore and people can be seen strolling spellbound all through the day and night, all year through.

There are also many restaurants on hand that serve authentic dishes. The largest military parade in Europe passes down the Champs-Élysées every year on July 14th, which is marked as Bastille Day or the National Day of France. The President of the Republic attends the ceremony. So no matter at what time of the year you visit, the magical quality and romance about this place will certainly leave an indelible and lasting impression on all who visit.
