About Palace de Versailles

The royal residence of French kings, the Palace of Versailles, is a magnificent complex. It has captured the public eye for years due to its architectural grandeur and its political history. The palace is now a Monument Historique and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Almost 10 million visitors come here every year and it is considered one of the most famous historic sites in the world. The palace has 2,300 rooms. After the French Revolution, it became the Museum of the History of France and later on, it was restored to its former glory.

You would never have seen anything so ornate and spectacular with a huge collection of paintings and sculptures. It is of historical and architectural significance and is breathtakingly amazing. The garden entices with its beauty and magnificence and the reflection of the palace in the waters looks splendid. It was once the official residence of the royals, later it was converted into a museum in the 18th century. It houses the hall of mirrors which are opulent deflecting light from chandeliers. The antique furniture, mirrors, lighting, and decor will take you back in time. How to reach

By Train(RER): 7.1 Euros(round trip), 60 minutes

RER line C arrives at Versailles Château - Rive Gauche train station, just a 10-minute walk to the Palace. SNCF trains from Gare Montparnasse arrive at Versailles Chanters train station, which is 18 minutes on foot to the Palace

By Shuttle/ Bus: 171 Line Bus; 44.90 Euros, 22 minutes

Versailles Express offers transport to the Palace of Versailles from the Eiffel Tower in Paris from Tuesday to Sunday

By Car/Cab: 2.69 Euros, 22 minutes

From the A13 motorway, exit no.5 reach Versailles Centre and follow the signs for the Palace of Versailles


Tips

  • Try to buy tickets online
  • Choose the Passport with timed entry
  • The park and gardens are open every day from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. and are free of charge
  • The guided tours allow you to visit the otherwise closed areas and direct access to the free trial
  • To reduce waiting time at the audioguide desk, download the visit application free of charge. This contains all audioguides and additional tour information
  • On days with musical fountains, shows or musical gardens, a passport ticket or a dedicated ticket is required to enter the Gardens (access is free for children under 6)
  • Photography without flash is permitted in the Palace rooms. Selfie sticks are prohibited
  • Beware of pickpockets inside and outside the Palace
  • Certain items are prohibited in the Palace rooms and may be left at the luggage desk
  • Two free Wi-Fi points are available, one in the main courtyard and the other at the entrance to the gardens
