About Metropolitan Museum of Art

 The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or the Met, found on the eastern edge of Central Park,  is one of the most well-known and respected museums in the world. It is the largest museum of art in the U.S. and the third most visited museum of 2018. 

The museum offers more than 2 million art collections from ancient cultures to present times from all over the world! Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian, East Asian and Middle Eastern, Greek and Roman, European, Pre-Columbian, New Guinean, Islāmic, and American art can all be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. People of all ages, and from all walks of life, can experience and enjoy the rich culture packed within the museum.

How to reach

By Bus:
Line 4, 5, or 6 towards 86th St. will allow you to walk three blocks west to Fifth Avenue

Buses M1, M2, M3, or M4 from north on Madison Avenue to 83rd St. allow to walk one block west to Fifth Avenue

Tips

 

  •  Backpacks, bags, and all packages must be left at coat check. Don’t bring any bulky luggage or parcels because coat check won’t hold them for you
  •  Food and drinks can’t be brought into the museum, nor can they be left in coat check
  •  Flash photography and video cameras are prohibited. Photography is not allowed at special exhibitions
  •  The museum is fully accessible for patrons in wheelchairs or with mobility issues. The accessible entrances are located at Fifth Avenue and 81st St. and the parking garage. The Met. offers several programs for visitors with disabilities
  •  Strollers are allowed in the galleries (with a few exceptions)
  •  Large umbrellas must be checked in
  •  The museum’s Lost and Found office can be reached at 212-570-3981
